Westgarth Street - Malvern East
We completed a contemporary extension to transform this much-loved weatherboard home that had been purchased by our clients in 1982 and last renovated in 1983. Working closely with the clients and their designers, West Valentine Design, the brief was to retain the charm of the existing home while introducing a contemporary extension that would open the house to the backyard and create more connected living spaces.
Contemporary Extension to a Character Home
The new rear extension introduces a bold, modern form that contrasts with the traditional weatherboard frontage. Dark cladding and clean architectural lines define the addition, while expansive glazing allows natural light to flow deep into the home and creates a strong connection between the interior and outdoor entertaining areas.
Fresh new chapter
To cater to how people live today, the extension centres around a generous open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. Warm timber flooring, custom joinery and carefully considered lighting create a calm and welcoming environment. The large sliding doors open directly onto the outdoor deck and garden, extending the living space and making it ideal for entertaining.
